Report By Larry Bevand on ChessTalk:

I had the pleasure of attending this historic event on Saturday, March 15, 2008 and it was truly exceptional. Dan Scoones as Master of Ceremonies...can not be beat! Bruce and Yasser also addressed the excellent crowd and made us all laugh on numerous occasions.

I was also impressed with the turnout. I would estimate that over 200 different people stopped by at some point during the day. Both simuls (given in tandem by Yasser and Duncan) were full to capacity....I know Dylan Parker won his game against the tandem team as Lawrence Day shared that game with me...I think there were also some draws.

Also something we don't see much of in Canadian chess was the recognition of our superstars. The BCCF, represented by Stephen Wright, presented an award to the exceptional and truly loved Lynn Stringer and our favorite GM Duncan Suttles was given a plaque to commemorate his induction into the Canadian Chess Hall of Fame.

Bruce Harper explained how the Suttles books had been ongoing since 1975 - longer than his marriage. There was also some banter back and forth between Bruce and Dan about their games which appeared in the book....hopefully Dan can recount some of these stories for you.

Some folks I haven't seen for some time such as Nathan Divinsky and Mark Dutton also honoured us with their presence. Lawrence Day received a makeover by Dobrila Suttles...a new man this Lawrence, oh yes...and we sold numerous sets of the books on-site
